On August 4th, the "Experience movable type printing and appreciate the charm of intangible cultural heritage" public welfare activity of the 2024 "Flying Scarf, Happy Summer" summer public welfare summer camp, sponsored by the Youth League Committee and the Municipal Youth Work Committee, was held at the Hainan (Haikou) Youth Activity Center, attracting more than 10 groups of parent-child families to participate.
"Movable type printing is an ancient printing method, and its invention is a great technological revolution in the history of printing." In the activity, the teacher introduced the origin of China's the Four Great Inventions and printing. In the printing experience session, children arrange the scrambled ancient poetry movable type in the correct order, brush ink on the wooden movable type with a brush, lay rice paper on it, gently press it with their hands, and then gently rub it with a sponge brush to ensure that no word is left behind. Subsequently, they carefully lifted the rice paper and an ancient poem jumped onto it.
After the experience session, the children excitedly displayed their printed works and read aloud with great enthusiasm. The fragrance of paper and ink wafted around, and the children's faces showed bright smiles. Parents have expressed that this activity is very meaningful, allowing children to experience printing and review ancient poems they have learned, and feel the beauty of traditional culture and Chinese characters.
The relevant person in charge of the Youth League Committee introduced that this summer's summer camp relies on the Youth Activity Center of Hainan (Haikou), a subsidiary of the Youth League, to carry out various themed public welfare activities, attracting young people to spend a rich and colorful summer life. In addition, the summer camp also launched youth study activities, focusing on seven themes including Haikou's economic development, rural revitalization, astronomical exploration, red education, and vocational interest cultivation, leading young children to go to "walking classrooms" one after another.
